Preterm Infant Attention

How does prematurity affect developing visual senses? All other senses are relatively well-developed at birth, even when birth comes unexpectedly early. Vision, however, is unique. Since visual development starts the moment of birth, preterm infants actually have more visual experience than their full-term age-matched counterparts. This project seeks to follow preterm infants from 5 months through the first year and beyond, in an attempt to determine if early boosts in visual experience benefit preterm infants.
